Project Objectives
What must we do to transform American undergraduate computer science education to prepare our students to work and to lead in a global community of computing professionals?
We call this needed transformation internationalization, or i18n, borrowing the abbreviation from the software development community.
We will establish a Pacific Rim Community of computer science departments, high tech industry and international programs to explore a new model of computer science education.
We will hold a series of community building workshops to address a set of key topics, including:
- » Assessing the needs, benefits and barriers to internationalization;
- » Adding cultural elements to computer science courses and pedagogy;
- » Raising cultural awareness through international experiences;
- » Creating tools that support international community sustainability.
Our efforts will:
- » Serve as a model of community building for adoption by other regional efforts towards internationalization.
- » Contribute to a national discourse on transforming computer science education through internationalization.
Lay the groundwork for further initiatives:
- » A persistent i18n on-line community
- » Distributed education in computer science
- » Inter-institutional support of internationalization
