Workshop Overview
Working Sessions
We will continue to work in small groups to make progress on the projects that were the focus of the May workshop as well as on new ideas that have or will be proposed. These include:
- Co-authors for a series of articles on computer science education in the Pacific Rim for international publication
- Clearinghouse/bulletin board for faculty and student exchanges among our CPATH partners
- Global distributed software engineering projects among our CPATH partners
- International summer school programs (Wuxi and others)
- Clearinghouse/resource database for international internships and service opportunities in the Pacific Rim
- Course outlines and reading lists for courses in (a) cross-cultural communication, (b) cultural HCI, and (c) international computer ethics
- Committee to make recommendations to IEEE/ACM and ABET on a model i18n curriculum.
- New CPATH proposals to the U.S. National Science Foundation (due early Spring 2009) and other funding agencies
Keynote Addresses (TBA), sumptuous Chinese banquets, and optional tourist activities

Beijing Travel Arrangements
The NSF CPATH project through the University of Oregon will provide travel stipends for CPATH academic partners to attend the Beijing Workshop. Industry partners are asked to cover their own transportation. (We will cover up to four nights housing and all workshop meals for all partners.)

Academic CPATH partners: to receive your travel stipend check, please do the following by August 10, sooner if possible.
- Purchase your own ticket. (Do not contact Rene Remillard.)
- Register by filling out the online registration form. (Please register earlier if possible to help us in planning.)
- Submit proof of ticket purchase (see information below)
Note: If your registration is late, housing and travel support is not guaranteed (will be subject to availability of funds).
The travel stipend check will be given to you at the Beijing workshop. The following information must be provided for you to receive your check. You can provide this on the Registration Form or through separate email to Bing.
All partners: Name and full mailing address
U.S. partners only: Social Security Number. For security purposes, we recommend that you use U.S. mail.) Our business office will issue a Form 1099 and you will have to declare the stipend as income on your federal income tax return.

Hints on Airfare:
We encourage you to obtain plane tickets as early as possible since prices are likely to increase.. On July 1, we found less expensive fares (under $1000) from Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver through Seoul, Korea and on Air China.
