CPATH Clearinghouse: Information exchange for international opportunities
Facilitator: Michal Young, University of Oregon
We need an effective way to distribute information about opportunties for international study and teaching. This working group will discuss requirements for an information exchange where each CPATH participating institution can publicize opportunities for faculty and students at other institution.
Our goal is to produce a first set of requirements for a web-based system to publish this information. By the May workshop, we aim to have a prototype and some experience using it.
Pre-Beijing Workshop Assignment
Please investigate how opportunities for international study and teaching are currently publicized at your own institution. Bring examples.
Be prepared to discuss:
- What is the essential information that should be contained in announcements of international opportunities?
- Should announcements be divided into categories? How would people want to search and select announcements?
- Is it ok for everyone to read announcements, or is there a need to restrict access to some information?
- Who provides the information? How should the CPATH project solicit current information about opportunities?
Bring
- Examples of announcements of international opportunities from your own institution. (They do not have to be in English, if you can explain them to us.)
Beijing workshop goals
- Agree that it is worthwhile to construct a web-based system for exchanging information about international opportunities; OR propose another approach, such as using some existing channels.
- Produce an initial requirements statement for an international opportunities information exchange system. The requirements statement will include a list of key fields in announcements of international opportunities, and basic categories for organizing announcements.
- Identify key contacts at CPATH institutions to review the system design and use the prototype system before our May 2009 workshop.
