Summer School: Current Topics in Computer Science
Facilitator: Art Farley, University of Oregon
We propose a summer school for junior/senior undergraduate students and professors from the CPATH Community with the following purposes:
- To introduce a broad range of current topics in computer science to our undergraduate students through an annual, intensive two-week school. Topics will depend on student and professor interest. Teams of professors from the CPATH Community will propose topics and plans for summer courses. Depending on funding availability, one or more of these will be conducted.
- To introduce a team-based approach to problem solving and programming. Each course should offer the opportunity for students to work in mixed-culture teams to solve problems or complete programming projects.
- To provide an opportunity for travel either in Asia or the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
We plan to offer summer schools every summer. The schools could alternate between Asia and North America. We expect CPATH members to host the schools (or at WUXI). International teams formed during the summer school may participate in long-distance collaboration during the following school year.
